My Experience
On my summer trip to Africa during my sophomore year was the first time I met them. Kids full of spirit and curiosity. Upon entering the compounds, I noticed the house was white and brown, a weird mixture, made it look plain and simplistic. As the first day went on, my first interaction with the boy on the left of the image, let's call him "Joe," was nice. Joe was kind, easy to talk to and really funny. He made it easy for me to speak in French even though I forgot a ton, due to the lack of talking in French. It was on that first day that Joe had asked me to teach him English, he wanted to know how to speak since he was interested while hearing it during a phone call with my mom.
(Dialogue is translated from French to English)
"What is that you're saying, it sounds chinese?" says Joe.
I responded, "It's English, a very popular language."
I was confused and asked, "Have you never heard of English?"
He responded, "I know of it but never knew that's how it sounds."
"Could you please teach me little by little how to speak it?" said Joe.
"Sure why not, it wouldn't hurt and plus I'll be able to better my French while teaching you." I responded.
Then throughout that entire summer (two months), I taught him greetings, foods in French translated to English, and also locations of places he's been.
(these teachings are all shown in the video of the "My Video" Tab).
